About
our school
Welcome
to the Graettinger Community School website!
Graettinger is located on Highway 4 between Estherville and Emmetsburg. The school building is located two blocks east of Highway 4 on West Lost Island Street.
Beginning with the 2004-2005 school year, the Graettinger Community School entered into a whole grade sharing agreement with the Terril Community School. (Terril is located 16 miles northwest of Graettinger.) In December 2008, voters in Graettinger and Terril overwhelming passed a measure to consolidate the two districts. Effective July 1, 2010, the Graettinger-Terril Community School District will be formed.
The Graettinger-Terril Elementary School (PS-2) and the Graettinger-Terril High School (9-12) are both located in the same building. Grades 3-8 attend the Graettinger-Terril Middle School located in Terril. Roughly 250 students attend the Graettinger site. Twenty-six faculty members serve the needs of the students in the Graettinger building along with a building principal and shared superintendent.
Our athletic programs participate in the Cornbelt Conference. We offer football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, track, golf, softball, and baseball. Along with athletics, vocal music, instrumental music, individual speech, large group speech, drama, and FFA are available. Along with academics offered on site, the Graettinger-Terril High School is in partnership with Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg for a Regional Academy. Course offerings include such things as: Automotive Technology, Automotive Collision Technology, Farm Equipment Technology, CISCO, Welding Technology, Information Technology, Marine/Small Engine Repair, and many others.
Another strong partnership with ILCC is the online coursework. Juniors and seniors are encouraged to take at least one online course before graduating. The Graettinger-Terril High School formed an online classroom to support this venture. Students report to this room to complete assignments for the online course as well as monitor their progress with the coordinator. It is the goal of the district that students have a successful experience with online courses and Iowa Lakes Community College.
